What is Microneedling with PRP, and Why is My Own Blood Involved!?

At this point, you might have heard of microneedling, or perhaps a "Vampire Facial" that are often talked about by celebrities. But seriously... "why is my own blood on my face"!!??

The Basics

Microneedling with PRP is a highly advanced treatment backed with straight-up science. This treatment is perfect for people who are looking for an effective, minimally invasive "procedure" for facial rejuvenation. During the treatment, we use the SkinPen Device. What the heck is a SkinPen? Well, this is the tool that causes thousands of micro-injuries to the surface of the skin. This may sound weird, but don't be worried- these micro-injuries are so tiny that they do not cause any scar tissue formation, but will actually rebuild the skin.

The purpose of the tiny micro-injuries is to stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen is the strongest protein found in the skin that provides it with its strength and structure. When the skin is injured, collagen is signaled to rebuild the skin, to heal, and to make it stronger with new cells. The new collagen rebuild will make the skin smoother, stronger, tighter, and, not to mention, healthier.

Here's where the blood comes in:

The point of the PRP (Platelet-Rich-Plasma) part of the treatment is to speed up the natural healing process from the micro-injuries to the face. The overall treatment will take around 30 minutes to complete.

The Process:

1. First we begin by taking blood from your arm, which we then spin to separate the plasma.

2. We then take the natural chemicals in the platelets and plasma from your own blood to use during the microneedling.

3. During the microneedling, those chemicals are applied onto the face while the tiny needles work their magic, as they inject them further into the skin.

4. Making these tiny injections into the face allows your own blood to coat the skin cells, which then heavily stimulates healing and collagen production.

Common Q & A

Who is this procedure made for?

Microneedling with PRP is made for people of any skin type, tone or color. It is also safe to be done during all times of the year. This is for people who want that extra "umph!!" for effective facial rejuvenation.

When will I see results?

You will see best results after about a week of treatment. Just like most things skin related, treatments work best if they are done multiple times over a period. We recommend 3 treatments: one every 4 weeks to receive and maintain the full benefits.

Side Effects? Recovery?

Because this is a minimally invasive treatment, there are very few side effects. The recovery is about 1-3 days post treatment. Recovery is mild, too, similar to the look of a mild to moderate sunburn and redness on the face. Once the redness subsides, the results come quickly!

Can I do this at home?

You may have seen Dermrollers on the internet, and that it can be used as an "at home microneedling treatment." If you are looking for quick results, this has none. If not done carefully, this can cause great damage to the skin, as tools may not be sterilized, and people can often overdo it, causing too much trauma to the skin. We do not recommend this as an alternative.

Will this treatment hurt?

If you are worried about the pain, we do offer a numbing cream that can be applied about 20 minutes before the procedure. If you do not want the numbing cream, patients may feel some discomfort, but can be similar to the feeling of sandpaper.
